One Battle After Another Thoughts
Last weekend felt like the Super Bowl for film with the arrival of a new Paul Thomas Anderson. We haven’t gotten much in terms plot until recently, and I am glad that I was generally in the dark about what this is. While we were vague about the premise and plot, early reviews and screeners were already talking about this movie using words like “masterpiece” and “best.” Typically, movies like this was draw split reactions, like most great art does. So, I was a bit worried in going to see it that perhaps adoration for Anderson’s career was coloring perception of the quality of the film.
I’m glad that I was wrong about this.
This movie is a masterpiece. I’ve been wrestling, since I watched it Sunday, where it fits within my personal rankings of the PTA filmography. It’s certainly in the top three, probably in the top two, and maybe number one.
Just go watch it.
